YouTube is known as a popular video service and may not have an app which is specifically designed to stream music. However, it is undoubtedly the place where a vast amount of people go to play their favourite songs and find new tracks to listen to.
For this reason, YouTube has now decided to launch a music streaming service which offers all of the advantages of YouTube’s colossal catalogue, alongside the plus points of other online music streaming services such as Spotify and Apple Music. The new service allows people to download tracks and listen to them offline, with the ad-free music playback experience that is common to the premium tiers of other music streaming services. Subscribers to YouTube music can also benefit from ad-free playback on every type of music video that they watch, something that cannot be offered by its rivals.
The YouTube music service is Google’s latest attempt to break into the streaming market, by using a brand which has a significant amount of loyalty from consumers. Whether this will be enough to shift already committed users remains to be seen.
